Cost Containment Strategies in SF & LF
This one-hour course provides insurance professionals with an educational overview of cost containment strategies used in level-funded and self-funded group health plans. The course reviews the underlying cost drivers in employer-sponsored health plans, compares traditional carrier-led approaches with alternative funding and administrative models, and explains how strategies such as PPO network discounting, utilization management, pharmacy management, specialty drug controls, site-of-care steerage, member navigation, reference-based pricing, Medicare-indexed reimbursement, direct contracting, centers of excellence, captives, risk-sharing arrangements, and data reporting may affect plan cost and member experience.
The course is designed to help producers evaluate cost containment strategies objectively, identify the types of claims or cost categories each strategy is intended to address, and ask appropriate questions when advising employer clients. Product and carrier examples may be referenced for educational comparison purposes only and are not presented as endorsements or recommendations.
